History of the brewery

Our story

The former brewery had a very good reputation in its time, it was one of the first in its area to be rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century into a modern industrial brewery and employed famous brewers.

Messrs. Matoušek, Suda and Greif have indelibly written themselves into the history of Czech brewing, and Choceň beer used to be famous not only in this region, but also in Prague, Brno and Vienna, for example.

And what about today?

Three friends and enthusiasts of small-scale beer production founded the company Pivovar Choceň in May 2020, and in the spring of 2021 they resumed production, continuing the long-standing tradition of brewing beer on the premises of the former Princely Brewery in Choceň.

Where it ended almost 40 years ago, it was necessary to start again and continue, in short, to restore the original purpose of the building and the local craft. The brewery tanks with the brewhouse have once again returned to their traditional place in Choceň, and Choceň beer is back.

SPLÁVEK

This new name for Choceň beer expresses the proximity of the brewery buildings to the former raft at the site of the current drum weir directly in front of the brewery's malthouse.

The brewery belonged to Choceň for centuries, and the Tichá Orlice River was, is and will be the eternal dominant of this beautiful place.

Therefore, in the new graphics and logo of the renewed brewery, we find the original motif of the so-called water-level bar, an integral part of the rafts above the weir.
